Song Spotlight: YG Marley – Praise Jah In the Moonlight

By superadmin

Let’s face it, you’d have to be living under a rock to not have heard YG Marley’s breakout hit, ‘Praise Jah In the Moonlight’! After blowing up on TikTok, it’s been everywhere and anywhere, so join us as we deep-dive into this track!

The grandson of Bob Marley and son of Rohan Marley and Lauryn Hill, Joshua Marley – aka YG Marley’s debut song has proven to be a family affair!  Co-written by YG Marley and Lauryn Hill, ‘Praise Jah In the Moonlight’ samples Bob Marley & The Wailers’ 1978 track, ‘Crisis’, and features Hill’s vocals.

Marley performed the song several times during his mother’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour, with it gaining popularity on TikTok and fans asking for an official release of the song. Since being self-released by Marley on 27th December 2023, the song has continued to gain traction, with a particular spike in popularity following the release of the 2024 biopic, Bob Marley: One Love

‘Praise Jah In The Moonlight’ has seen international chart success, reaching the top 20 on the Billboard Global 200 chart, and the top 5 on the UK Singles Chart. Not only has YG Marley become the sixth member of the Marley family to chart a song on Billboard’s Hot 100 (following Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, Ky-Mani Marley, Damian Marley and Skip Marley), but his song has become the first reggae song to enter the chart since his uncle Damian Marley and Jay-Z’s single ‘Bam’ charted seven years before!
