Under his alias, Djo, Stranger Things star Joe Keery initially released ‘End of Beginning’ independently on 16th September 2022, as part of his second studio album DECIDE. Two years later, the synth-pop anthem has gone on to become a viral sensation, gaining popularity on TikTok, resulting in his first debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart (peaking at number 11), as well as the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100 (peaking at number 4)!

Keery wrote the song about his experience leaving Chicago, the city where he attended DePaul University and was part of psychedelic rock band Post Animal, to move to LA after the success of Stranger Things. Exploring themes of personal transformation and reflection on past experiences, it’s no wonder why so many people have found the song relatable, leading to its popularity!

Its TikTok trend initially involved self-shot supercuts of Chicago, with users also replicating this format for their own hometowns and travel videos. A more recent trend has emerged, consisting of a photo montage that begins with the prompt, “If I won the lottery I wouldn’t tell anyone…but there’d be signs”, followed by how their life would change after this.

This is certainly not the end of the beginning of us singing this stellar song!
