TLC – Waterfalls 

Get the gang together for this one! Appearing on their second album, CrazySexyCool, ‘Waterfalls’ became not only one of TLC’s signature songs, but a defining song of the decade! A cautionary tale that warns against getting caught up in the dangers of life, ‘Waterfalls’ boasts memorable verses and soulful vocals, and is a mellow R&B karaoke track that’s perfect to sing-along to whilst cruising in the car. 

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody 

It’s time to channel your inner Wayne and Garth! Queen’s iconic rock-operatic masterpiece is a must have in any karaoke repertoire, and is sure to liven up any car journey! With passionate vocals and epic harmonies, this is a timeless song that brings out everyone’s dramatic flare.

Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way 

A go to song choice for car adverts, ‘Go Your Own Way’ is an infectious classic from Fleetwood Mac that embodies the theme of their 1977 album ‘Rumours’, which was heavily influenced by the fallout of relationships within the band. Written by guitarist and vocalist, Lindsey Buckingham, about his breakup with bandmate Stevie Nicks, this song’s chorus offers an angry and cathartic release, making it a karaoke song that demands to be belted!

Oasis – Wonderwall 

‘Wonderwall’ is a song that you can guarantee will appear in any guitarist’s set!  A UK anthem, and a favourite amongst dads, this 90s Britpop classic still remains one of the band’s most popular songs. A melodic song, it’s a great choice for a chill carpool karaoke sesh.

Tracy Chapman – Fast Car 

Receiving three Grammy nominations, ‘Fast Car’ saw Chapman take home the Grammy for ‘Best Female Pop Vocal Performance’ in 1989. Grounded in realism, this powerful and emotive socially-conscious folk-rock ballad explores a woman trying to escape the cycle of poverty, and her pursuit for a better life. This is a moving karaoke number to sing as you take on the open road. 

The Proclaimers – I’m Gonna Be  (500  Miles) 

There’s no wonder why this is the Scottish duo’s most popular song! With rousing and sing-a-long-able lyrics, ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ is a catchy classic tune that gets the whole crowd going. Whether you’re going five hundred miles, or five hundred more, this is a karaoke song you just can’t help but sing from the top of your lungs – Da-da da da!

Estelle ft. Kanye West – American Boy 

Yeah, Estelle, we ’bout to get down! Released in 2008, this R&B disco-funk song about a cross-continental romance was Estelle’s breakthrough hit, and still remains a certified bop! This feel-good karaoke tune is great for any car ride, and is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. 

Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’ 

You can’t tell us that hearing “Just a small-town girl, livin’ in a loooonely world” doesn’t ignite something within you! This is an 80s power ballad that just won’t quit, and has only grown more popular with its use in movies and television (most notably Glee and The Sopranos). With its unique structure, this is a memorable and timeless karaoke classic that you can sing your heart out to on any car journey!

Britney Spears – …Baby One More Time 

Originally written for, but turned down by TLC, it’s hard to imagine anyone else but Britney singing this ICONIC classic! Catapulting her to superstardom, this song was a cultural reset – from its influential music video, to its catchy chorus and danceable beat! This is a karaoke pop anthem that everyone knows the lyrics to, and will keep you groovin’ on your drive!

Vanessa Carlton – A Thousand Miles 

If you’re travelling a thousand miles, this 00s pop hit makes a great karaoke accompaniment for any road trip! Vanessa Carlton’s debut single, ‘A Thousand Miles’ was popularised by the 2004 film White Chicks.  Terry Crews singing this in the car will continue to live rent free in our minds for many more years to come!
